Will Wilder vs. Fury 2 ever happen?

On December 1, 2018, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Deontay Wilder and ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury gave the boxing world a 2018 early Christmas present when they squared off against each other. That fight was one of the most anticipated fights of 2018, and Wilder and Fury did not disappoint.

In that fight, Wilder managed to knock Fury down twice, and Fury used his good boxing skills to elude most of Wilder’s bombs. The second knockdown that Fury suffered came in the 12th round and he looked as though he was knocked out. However, Fury somehow, someway, beat the 10 count from the referee, got back on his feet, and finished the fight strong.

The Wilder vs. Fury WBC heavyweight title fight would go to the judges’ scorecards and the fight was ruled a draw. You can argue that Wilder won the fight based on the knockdowns, and you can argue that Fury won the fight based on him clearly outboxing Wilder.

Nevertheless, the fight ended in a draw. It is now 2019, and the boxing world was set to hear when a rematch between Wilder and Fury would
take place. Fury put all of the talks of a rematch, for now, to rest when he announced that he would not be fighting Deontay Wilder next.

This shocked the boxing world given that Fury did enough to win the fight in a lot of the boxing world’s eyes. With that said, many felt that surely Fury would like a rematch to right the wrong that happened on December 1, 2018. Is he ducking Deontay Wilder?

Not sure, but when the decision was made by Fury not to fight Wilder, it left Wilder no choice but to find another dance partner for his next fight. That opponent for Wilder will be Dominic ‘Trouble’ Breazeale. This fight will take place on May 18, 2019, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York for Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title.

As for Tyson Fury, his next fight will be against undefeated unknown heavyweight Tom Schwarz. That fight will take place on June 15, 2019, at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
