Who Really Won? Shawn Porter or Yordenis Ugas?

The Shawn Porter vs. Yordenis Ugas WBC welterweight championship fight was give and take throughout the night. Ugas used his good jab and shots to the body to give Porter a lot of trouble. Porter did a good job in the fight mixing up his attack by moving on angles and not allowing Ugas to set up and fire off counter shots.

As the fight heated up, however, Ugas started to get his counter shots threw and boxed Porter well. Porter also heated up by getting on the inside and catching Ugas with good combinations and right-hand shots.

There were a lot of close rounds in this fight so certainly it had to have been tough on the judges to score. In round 12, Ugas caught Porter with a right-hand shot that sent Porter to the canvas. It definitely looked like a knockdown, but Referee Jack Reiss ruled the knockdown a slip.

This controversial fight ended up going to the judges’ scorecards. Judge Steve Marrow scored the fight 116-112 for Shawn Porter; Judge Zachary Young scored the fight 117-111 for Yordenis Ugas; and Judge Max DeLuca scored the fight 115-113 for the winner and still WBC welterweight champion of the world, Shawn ‘Showtime’ Porter.
