Saturday, October 17, 2020, marked a historic night in boxing history. ‘The Takeover’ Teofimo Lopez put on the best performance of his professional boxing career as he shocked the boxing world.

Lopez used his jab and good movement to outbox the boxer that is ‘Hi-Tech’ Vasiliy Lomachenko. Lopez dominated the first half of the fight. Lomachenko won the majority of the late rounds. It was a fight to remember that would come down to the judges’ scorecards.
Judge Tim Cheatham scored the fight 116-112. Judge Steve Weisfeld scored the fight 117-111, and Judge Julie Lederman scored the fight 119-109 all for the winner and new undisputed lightweight champion of the world, ‘The Takeover’ Teofimo Lopez.
With the win, Lopez became the youngest fighter in boxing history to become an undisputed champion. Lopez is only 23 years old with tons of room to get even better as a fighter. The judges’ scorecards did not reflect how close this fight was.
Judge Julie Lederman’s scorecard for sure did not reflect what took place in the ring on October 17, 2020. Fight scores such as 114-114, 115-113, 116-112, and 117-111 are all acceptable ways to score this fight.
Lopez would be the winner in all of those scenarios given that Lomachenko waited too late to collect the data to explode on Lopez. Potshot Boxing (PSB) scored the fight 115-113 for Lopez.
So, what’s next for ‘The Takeover’ Teofimo Lopez? Should he entertain a rematch with Lomachenko? Or should he go in another direction? No matter what the new undisputed lightweight champion decides, the boxing world will be clamoring to see his next fight.
