Errol Spence, Jr. and Shawn Porter raised their status in the welterweight division with a 2019 Fight of the Year performance. Porter did not allow Spence to walk through him. Hardcore boxing fans knew, however, that Porter was going to be tough for Spence heading into the fight.

It was an 11th round knockdown of Porter that proved to be the deciding factor of 2 of the judges’ scorecards. When the scorecards were read, it was Errol ‘The Truth’ Spence, Jr. who got the 12th round split-decision victory, thus, making him the unified IBF/WBC welterweight champion of the world.
Shawn ‘Showtime’ Porter showed a lot of heart and grit as he stood up to Spence; not allowing Spence to coast at any time in the fight. The boxing world can argue, however, that Spence should have gotten a unanimous decision as opposed to a split-decision. Now that Spence has gotten past the biggest test of his professional boxing career against Porter, he has a lot of huge opportunities waiting for him in the future.
