The Aftermath: Errol Spence, Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia

On March 16, 2019, the boxing world witnessed two great undefeated fighters square off at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. In what was supposed to have been a competitive chess match, quickly turned into overmatched one-sided destruction.

Errol Spence, Jr. put the boxing world on notice last Saturday night as he outboxed, outclassed, and systematically broke down a great fighter in Mikey Garcia. It was clear from round one that Garcia made a huge mistake moving up 2 weight classes to face off against the best welterweight in the world.

Errol Spence, Jr. is simply “The Truth.” All night long Spence used his great jab to keep Garcia from setting up and firing his jabs and combinations. Spence was the first fighter that Garcia was not able to impose his boxing game plan on.

This fight got dangerous in the later rounds as Spence’s jabs, hooks, and hard combinations to the body started to wear down the overmatched Garcia. At one point, Garcia’s corner was threatening to stop the fight. The heart of a champion in Garcia, however, would not allow him to quit, thus, the fight continued.

Garcia made it to the end of round 12, but at what cost? This great fight went to the judges’ scorecards. Judge Glen Feldman scored the fight 120-107, and Judges Alex Levin and Nelson Vazquez scored the fight 120-108 all for the winner and still the IBF welterweight champion of the world…Errol ‘The Truth’ Spence, Jr.!

Conclusion

Errol Spence, Jr. is one bad man! He made a world class fighter like Mikey Garcia look like an amateur. Now there will be some of the boxing world who will not be impressed with Spence’s performance given that Garcia moved up 2 weight classes to fight him.

With that said, however, there was a lot of the boxing world who felt that Garcia had a huge chance to win this fight based on his Boxing IQ. Boy did Errol Spence, Jr. make a lot of people eat their words. So, what’s next for one of the best, if not the best Pound 4 Pound fighter in the sport?

Well, there are only a couple of fighters at the moment that will get their shot at dethroning the New Face of Boxing. Those fighters are Manny ‘PacMan’ Pacquiao and Shawn ‘Showtime’ Porter. Heck, Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman may sneak in there to get a shot at Errol Spence, Jr. as well.

It doesn’t matter which fighter Spence fights next. Whoever is brave enough to fight Spence next is going to be in serious trouble because he is one dangerous man.

Who should IBF welterweight champion Errol 'The Truth' Spence, Jr. fight next?
