So after the dust settled at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada this past Saturday night, it was ‘Sugar’ Shakur Stevenson that won the “Boyfriend vs. Brother” fight over Joet Gonzalez. “Boyfriend” Stevenson dominated the tough and rugged “Brother” Gonzalez for 12 rounds.

Stevenson is currently dating Gonzalez’s sister Jajaira Gonzalez. As a result, the feud between the 2 fighters and Gonzalez’s family is stemming from Stevenson’s relationship with Jajaira Gonzalez. In the lead up to this fight on October 26, the intensity was revved up between the 2 fighters as both fighters promised that somebody was going to get hurt come October 26.
In the end, Stevenson cruised to a 12th round unanimous decision victory over Joet Gonzalez to capture the vacant WBO featherweight title, thus, handing Gonzalez the first loss of his professional boxing career. This is Stevenson’s first world title and he is only 22 years old. Skies the limit for the upstart Stevenson.
After the fight, Stevenson tried to engage with Gonzalez, but Gonzalez was having none of that. With that said, it looks as though the feud will continue with Stevenson and the Gonzalez family as long as he is dating Jajaira Gonzalez.
During the post-fight interview, Stevenson gave much respect to Gonzalez and his family but advised them to speak with their sister and daughter. Stevenson also put the featherweight division on notice, as he called out IBF featherweight champion Josh ‘The Leeds Warrior’ Warrington. Stevenson said that Warrington told him to get a title and that he would fight him.
How would a potential Shakur Stevenson vs. Josh Warrington fight play out if the two fighters were to fight each other in 2020? The boxing world will have to wait to see if contracts are drawn up for this one.
