Heavyweight Great Earnie Shavers dies at age 78.

On September 1, 2022, boxing heavyweight great ‘The Black Destroyer’ Earnie Shavers died at age 78. He was considered one of the hardest punching heavyweights in boxing history.

His professional boxing career spanned over 26 years, from November 1969 through November 1995.  His professional boxing record consisted of 74 wins, 14 losses and 1 draw with 68 of his wins coming by way of knockout.  He fought a lot of great heavyweights over his professional boxing career.

Earnie Shavers fought great heavyweights such as Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Ron Lyle, Jimmy Ellis, and Ken Norton, Sr. He never won the heavyweight title but was always a gamed opponent for all heavyweights.

After retiring from boxing, Earnie Shavers became an ordained Christian minister and preached the gospel for many years. He will be missed by the boxing world and beyond.
