Can Erislandy Lara get back to his championship winning ways?

‘The American Dream’ Erislandy Lara is one of boxing’s intriguing fighters. All of his professional boxing losses have been controversial. The entire boxing world knows that he beat Paul ‘The Punisher’ Williams back on July 9, 2011. Williams, however, was awarded the controversial 12th round majority decision victory, thus, handing Lara the first professional boxing loss of his career.

Lara’s second professional boxing loss came back on July 12, 2014, at the hands of Canelo Alvarez. That fight also ended in controversy as Canelo was awarded the 12th round split-decision victory. You can argue that Lara did enough in that fight to win a decision.

Lara’s recent loss was on April 7, 2018, to Jarrett ‘Swift’ Hurd. As a result, Lara lost his WBA (Super) and IBO junior middleweight titles. Here is another fight where Lara could have gotten the decision. Now, except for the Lara vs. Williams fight, Lara suffered a knockdown in the Canelo and Hurd fights, which could have cost him the fight. Otherwise, Lara could easily still be an undefeated fighter.

Sometimes, politics will win the night in Boxing. Anyway, in Lara’s last fight, he battled Brian Castano to a draw, thus, failing to capture the WBA (Regular) junior middleweight title. That fight was on March 2, 2019. Now the crafty veteran will get another shot at the vacant WBA (Regular) junior middleweight title on August 31, 2019, when he squares off against Ramon ‘Inocente’ Alvarez.

The Lara vs. Alvarez fight will take place at the Minneapolis Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Fox will air this fight. Can Erislandy Lara get back to his championship-winning ways? No matter what happens on Saturday, August 31, Lara can be considered one of the best fighters of the decade 2010s.
