On May 7, 2016, The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will showcase the HBO PPV WBC middleweight title fight between Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan. The Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan fight will produce a lot of fireworks as Canelo will be looking to knock out Khan en route to continuing his reign as one of the top fighters in the sport.
When I first heard about this fight getting announced, I remember writing a tagline stating to “pray for Amir Khan.” Well after further review, I may have to eat my words on Saturday night because Khan has gained to proper weight to compete against Alvarez. Khan will have some advantages in the fight because Canelo is not your typical straightforward aggressive fighter.
Canelo loves to come straightforward, but he is a patient boxer which can bold well for Khan as I feel that Khan is a better boxer than Canelo. With that said, can Khan keep circling Canelo en route to shocking the boxing world on May 7, or will Canelo patiently close the distance on Khan and knock him out?
I have a hunch that Khan can shock the world by staying away from Canelo’s power and winning the night with speed and counterpunching, but Khan still has a glass jaw, and it will just be a matter of time when Canelo breaks through with a devastating shot that Khan will not recover from.
Now Khan does have a great trainer in Virgil Hunter in his corner, and I am sure the Hunter will have Khan ready for the beast that is Canelo. In the end, however, you cannot teach a glass jaw, and that is what will be the difference in this fight.
Prediction: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez by KO
