On January 30, 2016, Sergey Kovalev will be heading back to enemy territory when he defends his WBA (Super), IBF and WBO light heavyweight titles against Jean Pascal again at the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In their 1st fight, Kovalev used his left jab and effective aggression to walk through the courageous Pascal.
Also, Kovalev had Pascal literally out on his feet in the 3rd round in their 1st fight, but did not finish him, which made what should have been a quick night for Kovalev a heartfelt comeback by Pascal that was later snubbed out by Kovalev in round 8.
Now Pascal finds himself heading back to the scene of the crime where Kovalev stopped him in March of 2015. I feel that this fight will be no different from the last fight. I expect for Kovalev to use his good jab and aggression to keep Pascal boxing backwards and taking some serious punishment in the process.
In order for Pascal to win this fight, he is going to have to channel his inner “Roy Jones, Jr.” and somehow, someway try and counterpunch Kovalev after the jab is thrown by Kovalev. Pascal stood up and made it a great fight last year after almost being knocked out in the 3rd round, but this time around, I just feel that Kovalev is the better fighter and he will put away Pascal earlier than the 8th round en route to getting a big fight with either Adonis ‘Superman’ Stevenson or Andre ‘S.O.G.’ Ward.
Prediction: Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev by Knockout
