After suffering the 1st loss of his professional boxing career back in September 24, 1994 to ‘The Atomic Bull’ Oliver McCall, Lennox Lewis bounced back to knock out 3 of his next 4 opponents en route to a much-anticipated rematch with McCall.
The rematch would take place on February 7, 1997 at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. This fight turned out to be one of the most bizarre fights in boxing history as McCall had recently changed his life by becoming a Christian and refused to defend himself in the ring.
McCall felt convicted for fighting in a boxing ring and left himself vulnerable to one of the most dangerous fighters of the 1990’s; Lennox Lewis. In round 5, the referee had no choice but to stop the fight because McCall was not defending himself which left him wide open to get pummeled.
Lennox Lewis got his revenge by default and captured the vacant WBC heavyweight title in the process. Boxing World, was this the most bizarre fight you ever saw? Check out Potshot Boxing’s (PSB) Fight of the Week here……
