James DeGale and Badou Jack treated the Barclays Center boxing crowd to a fight for the ages. Jack went down in the 1st round off a quick left hand shot from DeGale. Jack got up from the knockdown and stalked DeGale for the rest of the fight.
Great back and forth action took place at the Barclays Center as Jack got appreciation from the boxing crowd for his relentless aggression. DeGale on the other hand, got his roses from the boxing crowd for his great punches in bunches.
Jack’s aggression would pay off in the 12th round as he caught DeGale with a devastating right hook that sent DeGale to the canvas for the very first time in his professional boxing career.
This great fight would go to the judges’ scorecards. Judge Glenn Feldman scored the fight 114-112 for James DeGale. Feldman was overruled, however, by Judges Julie Lederman and Steve Weisfeld as they scored the fight 113-113, which resulted as a majority draw.
As a result, James DeGale retains his IBF super-middleweight title, and Badou Jack retains his WBC super-middleweight title.
What a great way to start off the boxing year of 2017! These 2 great super-middleweights produced a potential 2017 Fight of the Year. DeGale lost a tooth in this fight, and a busted eardrum.
Badou Jack actually look like the winner if you took a picture of the 2 fighters after the fight. But DeGale great combination punching however, could not be denied in this fight. He too deserved to get the nod in this fight.
There is no way DeGale and Jack should fight another opponent in their next fight! These 2 fighters need to give the boxing world a redo so we can find out once and all who is the best super-middleweight.
