So, I was getting my daily dose of the best show on television ESPN First Take when I saw the topic shift to Manny Pacquiao.  The PacMan tweeted to ESPN First Take his two cents on the beef between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and ESPN First Take’s Stephen A. Smith.

Manny Pacquiao on Mayweather vs. Smith Beef - Potshot Boxing

To catch everyone up to speed, Stephen A. Smith said on an ESPN First Take segment that aired on Thursday, October 9, 2014 (Paraphrase) if Floyd Mayweather, Jr. fights either Miguel Cotto or Canelo Alvarez for his next fight instead of Pacquiao, then he would be okay with that.  However, Smith said, (Parphrase) if Floyd Mayweather, Jr. fight Amir Khan instead of Pacquiao for his next fight, then he would come on National Television and tell the world that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is avoiding Manny Pacquiao.

Smith just felt that Amir Khan is not box office enough for Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and simply does not belong in the ring with the great Pound for Pound King Floyd Mayweather, Jr.  Sounds like Smith had legitimate reasoning right?

Well, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. took offense to Smith’s comments and told FightHype.com that (Paraphrase) he does not give two flying (expletive) what Stephen A. Smith has to say along with some other unfair comments that I felt Stephen A. Smith did not deserve given how Smith has always stood by Mayweather when most of the world criticized Mayweather as a fighter and how he conducts himself outside of the boxing ring.

Manny Pacquiao join the Mayweather/Smith Beef party today by tweeting to ESPN First Take (Paraphrase) last time he checked Freedom of Speech was still part of the United States Bill of Rights.

Stephen A. Smith acknowledged Pacquiao’s comments by saying (Paraphrase) he appreciates Pacquiao for watching the show.  Smith would go on to say (Paraphrase) how Pacquiao is one of the best fighters in the history of boxing and how he appreciate Pacquiao for never ducking an opponent.

With all of that said, Smith says, (Paraphrase) I do not need support from Manny Pacquiao.  Smith would go on to respond to Pacquiao by saying (Paraphrase) don’t try to jump on this bandwagon and act like because Floyd Mayweather, Jr. came at him in a disrespectful manner that he is now going to side against Mayweather when it comes to the subject of Floyd Mayweather, Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao.

Smith went on the say (Paraphrase) his position has not wavered.  Smith believes Floyd is right when he says that Pacquiao just wants to fight him for money.  In a nutshell, Stephen A. Smith believes that Pacquiao used the Mayweather/Smith beef as an opportunity to try and get Floyd Mayweather, Jr. into the ring with him.

Now Smith said that he did not believe that Pacquiao was wrong for doing and that he should use every means necessary to try and get Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in the ring.  Smith feels that Pacquiao should get a big payday because he earned it and also because Pacquiao wants to fight Floyd.

Stephen A. Smith would take the beef with Mayweather even further in the final stage of the Manny Pacquiao segment on ESPN First Take by saying (Paraphrase) if Floyd Mayweather, Jr. fight Amir Khan in his next fight that he would ask permission from his bosses at ESPN to come on National Television and advocate that nobody buys that fight!  WE WANT PACQUIAO! Smith said.

After Smith said his peace, ESPN First Take’s Skip Bayless responded to Manny Pacquiao’s tweet in a joking way saying (Paraphase) allow him to say to his good friend Manny, you can infiltrate these proceedings anytime you want to.  Bring it Manny, Skip said.  We love it, we love you, we love what you are doing.

Bayless would go on to say (Paraphrase) taunt this man Manny, dare this man to fight you because he continues to run from you.  Bayless would also say that he appreciated Smith calling out Mayweather.

Conclusion

Manny Pacquiao really does want to fight Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Not just for the money, but because he knows the boxing world wants to see it.  The question is whether or not this fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao will ever happen.  In my humble opinion I really don’t know, but Stephen A. Smith made a good point on ESPN First Take today.

Smith said if Mayweather thinks he is going to go into the Boxing Hall of Fame without people attaching to his legacy that he never fought Manny Pacquiao, then Mayweather is sadly mistaken, given that this fight never happens.  All of the boxing greats have fought everybody as Smith pointed out on ESPN First Take today and I agree with Smith 100 percent.

If Floyd wants to be recognized as TBE – “The Best Ever” then he is going to have to fight not only fight Manny Pacquiao, but maybe another up and coming young lion that is ready to take the pound for pound crown like a Keith Thurman before I can consider Mayweather “The Best Ever.”
